Some Boys (Mini Book Review)

Some BoysSome Boys
Patty Blount
Paperback, 339 pages
Published August 5th 2014 by Sourcebooks Fire

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Some boys go too far. Some boys will break your heart. But one boy can make you whole.

When Grace meets Ian she's afraid. Afraid he'll reject her like the rest of the school, like her own family. After she accuses the town golden boy of rape, everyone turns against Grace. They call her a slut and a liar. But...Ian doesn't. He's funny and kind with secrets of his own.

But how do you trust the best friend of the boy who raped you? How do you believe in love?

Mini Review:

This book I have noticed has received mostly mixed reviews. Some people loved it, and some people didn't.

I understand both views.

This book is an important book to read. It deals with topics similar to the topics Faking Normal and Speak deal with, but in my opinion, Some Boys spins the topics a different way.

I am not going to mention the characters in this review because honestly, I had a love/hate relationship with them all the entire book.

I just need to say, this book is important. Patty Blount does not mince her words. And those words need to be said.

Breaking the Rules (Pushing the Limits 1.5)
Katie McGarry
Expected publication: December 8th 2014 by Harlequin Teen

Breaking the Rules (Pushing the Limits, #1.5)For new high school graduate Echo Emerson, a summer road trip out west with her boyfriend means getting away and forgetting what makes her so... different. It means seeing cool sights while selling her art at galleries along the way. And most of all, it means almost three months alone with Noah Hutchins, the hot, smart, soul-battered guy who’s never judged her. Echo and Noah share everything — except the one thing Echo’s just not ready for.

But when the source of Echo’s constant nightmares comes back into her life, she has to make some tough decisions about what she really wants — even as foster kid Noah’s search for his last remaining relatives forces them both to confront some serious truths about life, love, and themselves.

Now, with one week left before college orientation, jobs and real life, Echo must decide if Noah's more than the bad-boy fling everyone warned her he'd be. And the last leg of an amazing road trip will turn... seriously epic.

The Fine Art of Pretending (Mini Book Review)

The Fine Art of Pretending (The Fine Art of Pretending, #1)The Fine Art of Pretending
Rachel Harris
Paperback, 256 pages
Published September 30th 2014 by Spencer Hill Contemporary

Synopsis via Goodreads:
According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want

Mini Review:

Alyssa is friends with all the popular guys. And to them, she is considered a commitment, not someone a guy would date for fun. And this might be a compliment to some girls, but not Alyssa!
Alyssa wants to be the popular, good looking, guys girl friend. So what does she do? She decides to change her appearance completely.

Fluff. Like a pillow filled with feathers. Complete fluff.

Predictable. Nothing kept me wondering. I was honestly pretty bored.

I was hoping for a cute best friends romance. But I didn't get it. Brandon doesn't notice Alyssa at all until after she changes her appearance. WHAT??? No.

Then there is my big, huge, ginormous problem with Alyssa. She decides to change her appearance for a guy? I can understand where she is coming from, but as a friend I would say (okay I would yell) WHAT ARE YOU DOING???

This one just wasn't for me. I had huge issues with the main characters, the plot was predictable, and I was bored. I don't think I would recommend this one.

Update

I have recently had a lack of reviews on my blog......This is due to the fact that I haven't had enough to say about the recent books I have read. Which is not a particularly good thing. Most of the books I read were pretty mediocre, or I liked them/loved them but didn't have anything nice and long to say about them.
Plus, I have had quite a few recent DNF books.

So, the next few reviews posted will be mini reviews! (YAY!)

Expect mini reviews on the following books:

Beware the WildSome BoysThe Fine Art of Pretending (The Fine Art of Pretending, #1)They All Fall Down
