This is my second Jessi Kirby book, the other being Golden. And unfortunately I have found that, similar to Sarah Dessen, I just can't get into her books. Honor loses her brother in Iraq, and three days later she receives a letter from him with tickets to a concert in California (she lives in Texas). Impulsively one week before college starts, she grabs some money and clothes and decides to go to this concert in California. Right before she leaves, her brothers best friend Rusty shows up and decides to go with her with nothing but the clothes on his back. Crazy right? For a coming of age novel it was a little to fast paced, and for Romance their was pretty much none. I could relate with some of the things that Honor was going through in her grief cycle, but with the book moving so fast you could never get much more than a glace in the rear view mirror at them. Rusty is a jerk, but he does get more likeable as the book goes on. Honor learns life lessons, and becomes more mature. This book is not terrible but its also not making my favorite books shelf anytime soon. Try it out if you like Sarah Dessen and other Jessi Kirby books though. Isn't that dress on the cover adorable :) And those boots! 2.5/5 |

The Rules for Disappearing is an exciting mystery that kept me on my toes for the whole book. The characters were complex enough to keep it interesting and the romance in it was close to perfect. The mystery of the book was one of the only mystery's that I have read recently that I didn't guess exactly what happened by page 50. Also hearing the different things that Meg and her sister Teeny went through were incredible. But now that she’s been transplanted to rural Louisiana, she has decided that this fake identity will be her last. Witness Protection has taken nearly everything from her. But for now, they’ve given her a new name, Megan Rose Jones, and a horrible hair color. For the past eight months, Meg has begged her father to answer one question: What on earth did he do – or see – that landed them in this god-awful mess? Meg has just about had it with all the Suits’ rules — and her dad’s silence. If he won’t help, it’s time she got some answers for herself. But Meg isn’t counting on Ethan Landry, an adorable Louisiana farm boy who’s too smart for his own good. He knows Meg is hiding something big. And it just might get both of them killed. As they embark on a perilous journey to free her family once and for all, Meg discovers that there’s only one rule that really matters — survival. Also hearing the different things that Meg and her sister Teeny went through were incredible. The adventure in this book is pretty much nonstop and overall the book did not slow down much :) The only thing I didn't like about this book is, why is it not a standalone? I liked it but I think that everything could have been wrapped up very nicely in this book.....but it caught the same disease that has been plaguing the YA section lately and that disease is unneeded sequels. Now even though I call it a disease it still doesn't mean that I won't be looking forward to the sequel (mayber the sequel will told in alternating points of view???? Now that would be awesome!) Overall I give it a 4/5 |
