Captive (The Blackcoat Rebellion #2)Aimee Carter
Hardcover, 304 pages
Published November 25th 2014 by Harlequin Teen
For the past two months, Kitty Doe's life has been a lie. Forced to impersonate the Prime Minister's niece, her frustration grows as her trust in her fake fiancé cracks, her real boyfriend is forbidden and the Blackcoats keep her in the dark more than ever.
But in the midst of discovering that her role in the Hart family may not be as coincidental as she thought, she's accused of treason and is forced to face her greatest fear: Elsewhere. A prison where no one can escape.
As one shocking revelation leads to the next, Kitty learns the hard way that she can trust no one, not even the people she thought were on her side. With her back against the wall, Kitty wants to believe she'll do whatever it takes to support the rebellion she believes in—but is she prepared to pay the ultimate price?
Review:
I liked Pawn, and Captive was a very anticipated book for me. The thing about the Blackcoat Rebellion series is that quite a few parts in it reminds me of other books/series I have read before. And although the idea is unique, I feel as if it gets lost in the dystopian black hole to me.
However, the plot is exciting and fast paced. A thrill of a ride that never stops being thrilling. Fun to read, plot twists that surprised me, I enjoyed the plot of this book.
But Kitty Doe. I mean come on. I wanted to yell at her SO MANY TIMES! She makes stupid mistakes after stupid mistakes the entire book. REALLY. I love characters with flaws, but I don't like my characters where I yell at them over the same things over and over again.
Ok. Done with the rant.
Ignoring my rant above, this is a good sequel. One worth reading. I am looking forward to reading The Blackcoat Rebellion #3 (Queen) to hopefully see if Kitty shows some character growth. I would give Captive 3/5 stars for being an exciting read. Looking Forward to Queen in 2015!
I think my opinion was along the lines of yours - I gave it 2.5 stars I think (but I rounded up to three stars). I'll be reading the third book as well, but I hope it's better than this sequel. I liked Pawn a lot though.
ReplyDeleteExcellent review, Em!

Thank-you!
DeleteEeep, I still need to read this! I'm a little worried now because of what you said about her making so many stupid mistakes. I think that will drive me crazy. I'm with you on the liking characters with flaws, but come on. There's no need to go overboard. A good plot always helps though, so I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it was fast paced.
ReplyDeleteI read PAWN but haven't got to this one yet. I didn't love PAWN but I liked it and was looking forward to reading CAPTIVE. In PAWN Kitty tended to drive me crazy a few times, so I can see how you might want to scream at her in this sequel!
ReplyDeleteGREAT review, and thanks for stopping by my STS @ Addicted Readers! :)
I started reading Pawn, but I couldn't stand Kitty so I stopped reading. I may give it another try eventually, but it sounds like Kitty is still frustrating :( The plot does sound exciting, though! Great review, Emily :)
ReplyDeleteThe story line is definitely interesting, I completely understand not being able to stand Kitty though!
DeleteI'm curious to start this series!! *-*
ReplyDeletePs. I have a blog as well, if you want to stop by I'd appreciate it so much! It's both in Italian and in English :3 -> http://frannieinthepages.blogspot.com/
